employee evaluation

Yesterday, we started talking about the importance of regularly evaluating your employees.

As we mentioned, the Millennial generation considers immediate feedback as a top concern when it comes to just about anything that they do.

With this new generation entering the workforce at a fast rate, it has become more important than ever for employers to make feedback a frequent part of their routine, which is why we are going to give you a few great tips on how to make these checkups more often. Take a look below:

  • Make a schedule and commit. Don’t improvise employee evaluations. Scheduling your evaluations helps to guarantee that both you and your employees are prepared for the talk. This in turn will help you make the most out of the time you are spending on the assessment, as well as ensure that you have time allotted to actually commit to the evaluation. That being said, there is nothing wrong with throwing in a few little checkups here and there. Just remember: these brief checkups aren’t substitutes, and should have a more informal approach–closer to a “hi, how are things going?”
  • Keep an evaluation portfolio. Keeping track of your employee evaluations is the best way to measure your employees’ progress. Not only that, but it also helps you record and remember all the details you need to conduct a successful evaluation. In turn, you ensure that all the proper steps are being taken towards making the necessary improvements that will increase their success.
  • Give them an opportunity to talk. Don’t dominate the conversation. While you are supposed to be evaluating your employees, you also have to keep in mind that you don’t know everything that is going on with them. Give them a fair amount of time to speak their minds and listen to everything that they say. The point of the evaluation is to help them improve themselves, so it only makes sense that they need to contribute to the conversation.

Don’t skimp on the regular evaluations. Assessing your employees’ work and well-being is an important part of running a team. Doing so can contribute to the overall success of your company, as well as your employees’ professional careers. Keep these tips in mind and you’ll be golden.
